Intensive
Psychotherapy
For those who need more than session to session, week by week
What is it?
Intensive psychotherapy is a model where client(s) and therapist meet for longer than a standard appointment, get deeper quicker, and have space to maintain that depth for transformative work that doesn’t need to wait a week to get back into it.
Intensives can range from 3-hours to 3-days. If a day-long experience, the time working together will be limited to 6-hours a day. It might help to think of it as a private retreat.
Where do we meet?
It’s best to do this work in-person. We’re limited to meeting in states where I’m licensed:
Washington, DC
Delaware
Maryland
Ohio
Virginia
What does it cost?
Pricing will be highly individualized. The cost includes a flat rate for the number of hours in-session together plus added costs as applicable (travel, meals, over-night lodging if needed).
What’s the process?
Consultation: We’ll need to meet for a consultation (free, 15-minutes) to determine general fit.
Intake Process: Setting Agreements, Goals, & Expectations: We’ll meet for 3 to 5 appointments online to help get acquainted, set goals, cover limitations and risks, start some of the work so you get a flavor for my style and approach, and ensure you have a clear idea of what’s possible and what may be needed after an intensive. This will also include identifying length of time for your intensive(s) and frequency. Because intensives are a large investment by everyone involved, it’s important we get this settled before booking any travel and lodging. We will need to finalize our agreements on payment, logistics, and acknowledge risks and limitations. We will also outline your desired treatment outline:
What do you want post-intensive tune-ups to look like?
What if you want repeat intensives?
How do we know the content has been closed?
What do you hope to accomplish? What might this also open up afterward?
Meeting for Intensive(s): After reaching our agreements and payment is made, we meet for our intensive(s) and do the work.
Post-Intensive Tune-Up(s): Intensives can open up a lot and human development isn’t linear. While there’s a quicker and deeper potential to the work through intensives, maintaining progress will likely require a time of checking in to help you continue to practice what you learned. Armoring and old patterns can remerge. This isn’t a “relapse” or “failure,” it’s vital information on what the “tending to” is asking of you. Tune-ups are often done online as a way to minimize cost; however, if you need a longer-larger tune-up, we can arrange for repeat intensives in-person.
Graduation: We celebrate your sustained growth and development. We review where you started, where you’ve grown into, and what you’ve maintained along the way. We also make a personal development plan for ways to help you continue your path beyond our work together and identifying signs for when to return if that’s desired.
Intensives sound expensive… is there a guarantee?
I can’t make promises or a guarantee as everyone’s growth and development is unique. What I can say is that intensives are unique. They afford us more space to maintain the vulnerability longer and stay with what needs gentle tending to and encouragement. They also offer a window into a special pacing. We have room to find the intensity and gently stay with it. I encourage feedback throughout the process so I can best cater to your individual needs. My hope is that you leave the intensives feeling changed and empowered. And, this type of work is for those who know that the work is a continuous practice. What’s different is the depth we can reach through sustaining more time for prolonged depth and vulnerability together.
